Book Nook: The Archive

Mount Pleasant’s dark academia bookstore, coffee & wine bar

Sept-Oct 2026

Owner Amanda Badeau has always been a reader—someone who turned to books for escape, reflection, and comfort. After 15 years in corporate operations, working across industries from retail to financial technology, Badeau decided to build something of her own, something rooted in community. That vision is how The Archive came to fruition: a third place where people could gather, unwind, and slow down.

The Archive opened in April 2025, creating a space that blends bookstore, coffee shop, and wine bar into one immersive experience. It has been named Best Bookstore by Best of South Carolina for the past two years.

Known for its strong community focus, the store hosts seven monthly book clubs, each with a waitlist, including Banned Books, Romantasy, Thriller, Coven (witch-lit), Dark Academia, and the popular Book & Bottle Club, which pairs each read with a curated wine. There is also a monthly craft night, trivia night, and author night, along with specialty events and curated gatherings.

On October 26th, The Archive is hosting a highly anticipated midnight release celebration for the next installment in the ACOTAR series. The themed evening takes place from 9 p.m. - 12 a.m.

Designed with a dark academia aesthetic, The Archive is meant to feel like an escape where every book, bottle, and detail is thoughtfully chosen to inspire connection, curiosity, and comfort.
