If you haven’t visited downtown Summerville recently, you are missing out. The food scene has turned into something spectacular, with options for everyone. In particular, the Italian food market is having a moment, with Talucci’s Bakery joining Laura and La Rustica in bringing a taste of Italy to the quaint little downtown area.

Talucci’s Bakery brings something different to the table (literally), specializing in Italian-inspired baked goods, including artisan breads such as ciabatta and focaccia, sweet and savory pastries (think cannoli, sfogliatella, croissants, bialys and flat breads) and of course, delicious desserts. Now open, their most recent addition: a deli featuring a carefully curated menu of meats, cheeses, pastas and take-home options. They source all products from Italy, even the flour, and they adhere to European standards for all their nourishing ingredients.

Because they believe that delicious baked goods deserve a good cup of coffee, they proudly serve Ditta Artigianale coffee, carefully selected for the bakery as one of Italy’s finest coffee brands. The beans are sourced from micro-roasteries around the world, with the aim to use only the finest and purest coffee beans and roasting processes, focusing on eco-sustainability as well as quality.

In addition to an unparalleled cup of coffee, you will find familiar favorites such as cappuccinos, lattes and macchiatos along with a selection of hot and iced teas and Italian sodas. According to Jacklyn Talucci, their mission in opening this space was to create a welcoming environment where their customers can comfortably spend time with friends, enjoy a good book or work on a laptop. With that in mind, the coffee bar offerings are an essential part of the vibe, helping to create a home-like atmosphere so guests may linger to share moments with family and friends while enjoying nutritious meals and savoring good coffee.

Charles and Jacklyn Talucci, along with their eight (yes, you read that right) children, are the faces behind this incredible space, living out their values of entrepreneurship as well as community. Charles Talucci’s parents are from Italy, and their love and appreciation for Italian culture comes from them. Their children happily assist with the operations of the bakery. The family’s aim was to bring a little slice of Italy to Summerville, and they have certainly done it.

The words describing the bakery and the things you will find inside its doors don’t do it justice; you must walk in and see the beautiful space, the attention to detail, the gorgeous flower ceiling and beautiful bar. These hallmarks alone are worth the trip.

You can find Talucci’s at 145 Central Ave., and they are open from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. Saturday hours are 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Sundays are 8 a.m.- 2 p.m. They take a much-needed break on Mondays.

Downtown Summerville is better for having beautiful Talucci’s land on historic, walkable Central. Join Charleston Living in watching their continued success unfold.
