THE COASTAL EDIT
02 Jul 2026
On the water with real estate agent Natasha Viswanathan

“Born and raised on Hilton Head Island, the water was the backdrop to childhood adventures, family rituals, and the beginnings of a lifelong connection to the coastline. Growing up without cable television ‘on purpose’ meant days were spent outside, usually somewhere near a marsh, creek, or ocean. Some of the best memories came from climbing into my big brother’s small jon boat whenever the tide was high enough behind our house. There was trash to pick up but also amazing treasures, and occasionally a little too much excitement — including the unforgettable moment of stumbling across an alligator nest on what was believed to be a deserted island. No one was home, but we didn’t plan on meeting whoever lived there, so off we ran back to the boat!
Beach days were equally formative. Sandy peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, dolphins surfacing in the distance, ghost crabs popping in and out of their burrows, and seagulls circling overhead made the ocean feel less like a destination and more like home. That deep-rooted connection to the coast still shapes my daily life today.
Since 2015, when I began my career in real estate, I’ve always felt more like an ambassador for the Lowcountry than a salesperson. It’s about introducing people to the Lowcountry lifestyle: soaking in pink sunsets after summer storms, afternoons spent exploring the waterways, quiet mornings collecting shells along the shore, and the unmistakable warmth and hospitality that define Charleston living. A home here is really a gateway to experiencing the coast in a meaningful way.
Outside of real estate, the water still calls. A self-described biology nerd at heart, there was once a plan to pursue biomedical research before business and real estate ultimately won out during college at Emory University. That curiosity about marine life never faded. Shark diving became an unexpected source of calm and fascination, inspiring a deeper appreciation for these misunderstood creatures and the fragile role they play in an ecosystem increasingly threatened by human impact. Closer to shore, searching for shark teeth has become a favorite form of meditation — part treasure hunt, part quiet connection to nature, and entirely Lowcountry.”
