JANUARY

Museum Mile Month 2024

Jan. 1- Jan. 31

During the month of January, enjoy access to 13 participating Museum Mile sites with the purchase of one low ticket price. With the Museum Mile Month pass, you can spend an entire month learning about Charleston’s rich history and culture while visiting sites however best fits your schedule. Annual Oyster Roast to benefit Save the Light

Jan. 5

Enjoy all you can eat oysters at Bowen’s Island restaurant and help support a good cause. The Save the Light organization works to help preserve the Morris Island Lighthouse off Folly Beach. Tickets are $75 and includes entry, oysters, beer, wine, hot dogs, chili, and desserts. VIP tickets are available for $150 with special food items. 2–5 p.m. www.savethelight.org

Nature Rx: Forest Bathing Fridays

Caw Caw Interpretive Center

Fridays in January

Join a naturalist for some ecotherapy in a county park. This program will not include heavy-duty exercise; it is simply about being in nature and connecting with it through the senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. Ages 15 and up. $9. 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. www.ccprc.com.

Off Road Duathlon

Jan. 11

Traverse the scenic trails of Laurel Hill County Park during the Off Road Duathlon. This three-part beginner-friendly course begins with a 2-mile run, then a 7-mile bike ride and finishes with another 2-mile run. Finisher medals will be given out as well as awards. Restaurant Week South Carolina 

Jan. 11-21

One of the most highly-anticipated culinary events in the Charleston area, diners will get the opportunity to enjoy the world-renowned cuisine of the Lowcountry as participating restaurants offer special prix fixe lunch and dinner menus. Charlie Post 15K/5K Run

Jan. 11

The 39th annual footrace honors the memory of Dr. Charlie Post, a well-known runner, triathlete and family physician who volunteered his time and medical talents to the running community. Registration is $45-$55. Sullivan's Island Fish Fry Shack,1424 Hennessy St., Sullivan’s Island.

Mex 1 Snowboard Rail Jam at Firefly Distillery

Jan. 11

The Mex 1 Snowboard Rail Jam is ready to bring the heat (and snow!) to Firefly Distillery. With a larger ramp, more snow, and elite riders from across the country, expect thrilling flips, tricks, and high-flying stunts as competitors take on this massive ramp and custom-built rail setup. The event kicks off at 4 p.m., with snowboarding starting at dusk. There will also be live music, food and drinks for purchase. Tickets are $35 in advance and $100 for VIP. Chamber Music at the Dock Street Theatre

Jan. 12

Chamber Music Charleston’s acclaimed Ovation Concert Series will feature an exquisite program of music for piano quintet, with guest violinist Anthea Kreston and pianist Phillip Bush joining musicians from Chamber Music Charleston. Jan. 17

Charleston Winter Wine Festival

Jan. 18

Sample 50+ different wines, mimosas, and beers along with live music and a DJ. Tickets are $50 in advance, $55 after Jan. 15, and $65 day of event and includes unlimited samples and a souvenir glass. Taste of Folly

Jan. 17 & 18

Taste of Folly is a food-focused weekend with a Cocktail Competition on Friday at the Tides in the Pavilion Ballroom from 6-9 p.m. This battle of the bartenders will showcase the beach’s best mixologists making delicious craft cocktails. On Saturday, Center Street will be closed for an artisan market and kids area, food focused vendors and live demonstrations. Firefly Distillery Oyster Roast Series

Jan. 19 & Feb. 23

Enjoy an all-you-can-eat oyster roast with music from Charleston's top DJs and food truck fare for purchase, specialty Firefly cocktails, Bloody Marys and beer available for purchase. Charleston Half Marathon

Jan. 25

Celebrating its 15th anniversary, the Charleston Half-Marathon races through historic downtown Charleston and ends with a post-race party at the Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. There will also be a 5K and youth run. 7 a.m. at Burke High School, 244 President St. Registration is $130 for the half marathon and $65 for the 5K. www.capstoneraces.com

Patton Oswalt

Jan. 25

The Second City in the Holy City

Jan. 28

The cast of Chicago’s famed improv comedy group will leave the Windy City for the Holy City. The night will feature a curated selection of the company’s best sketch comedy, singing, dancing and improvisation from their extensive repertoire. 17th Annual Gourmet & Grapes

Celebrate the 17th Annual Gourmet & Grapes four-day culinary experience at The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort with a host of curated events that includes a black tie dinner, bikes and bubbles and caviar brunch. Lowcountry Oyster Festival

Feb. 2

Who’s ready to do some oyster shucking? How does 45,000 pounds of oysters sound? The Lowcountry Oyster Festival is the world’s largest oyster festival! Celebrate the 42nd anniversary of this favorite event at Boone Hall Plantation. Highlights include live music on the main stage, raw oyster eating and shucking contests, wine, a selection of domestic and imported beers, a Children’s Area and a “Food Court” showcasing a variety of local favorite restaurants. Save the Light Half Marathon and 5K on Folly Beach

Feb. 8

The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission partners with Save the Light to host an annual half marathon and 5K on Folly Beach to support the preservation of the Morris Island Lighthouse. Both races start and finish near the Folly Beach Pier at 8 a.m. The half marathon is a run-only event; the 5K is open to runners and walkers. Register at CharlestonCountyParks.com. Race-day registration will not be available. Fees are $65 for the half marathon and $45 for the 5K.

Cupid’s Chase

Feb. 8

Charleston Ducks Unlimited 28th Annual Oyster Roast

Charleston Gaillard Center Presents Alvin Ailey

American Dance Theater

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will return to Gaillard with performances celebrating lineage and legacy. AILEY’s extraordinary dancers will bring to life new works by choreographers for whom Mr. Ailey paved the way, as well as beloved classics including the masterpiece Revelations.
