Advanced skin care treatments for both medical and cosmetic needs
By Jenny Peterson
Epiphany Dermatology, formerly Dermatology & Laser Center of Charleston, has been helping the Charleston community with their hair, skin, and nail concerns since 2005. Their clinics offer patients access to board-certified dermatologists, with a full range of dermatology services that include both skin cancer screenings and treatment of skin conditions as well as a suite of cosmetic and laser services like dermal fillers and wrinkle reducing treatments, like Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport® .
Epiphany dermatologists at all three area locations are trained at top institutions and through research and practice are innovative and experienced, including a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon for the surgical removal of skin cancer. They’ve recently brought on additional physicians and physician assistants to their clinics to accommodate their patient’s needs.
Common services on the medical side are skin checks to look for skin cancer as well as diagnosis and treatment of rashes, lesions (like moles), acne, rosacea, psoriasis and hair and nail disorders.
“We do a lot of surgery from simple mole removals to advanced skin cancer surgery and reconstruction,” states Dr. Todd Schlesinger, a board-certified dermatologist. “We have come such a long way in the treatment of once very difficult skin conditions that we can now get patients clear of.”
“Cosmetic dermatology has evolved to be very nuanced. We’re helping people to look their best without looking overdone or looking like they’ve had ‘work’ done. We focus on natural-looking yet effective,” states Dr. Schlesinger. “New devices are always becoming available and we have new dermal fillers and wrinkle relaxers.”
The clinic also performs a number of cosmetic, laser services and energy-based devices for body sculpting, muscle toning and shaping, as well as other rejuvenating aesthetic treatments. Radiofrequency microneedling for anti-aging and EMSCULPT® for body toning and tightening are popular treatments.
“It is important to have a relationship with a dermatologist to receive annual skin examinations at a minimum, but beyond that, skin conditions can sneak up on you and you want to have a trusted dermatologist you can rely on to address them. Having a relationship with a dermatologist makes it much easier. We say, ‘start with a skin check and go from there.’”
